Unofficial learning aid · Living Rules v2.16
Hands-on lessons on a drawn copy of the game board. A tutor explains each rule as you use it, you look things up on the board's own tables, and then you play a whole turn and learn how to teach the game yourself. When you finish, you'll be ready for the Early Republic scenario.
Every rule here follows the Republic of Rome Living Rules v2.16 (the original Avalon Hill rules with their errata built in), and each step cites the section to look up. Senators, Statesmen, wars and Concessions use the real card values from its card list. The result tables (Population, Combat, Games, Land Bills and so on) were copied from the game board, because the rulebook doesn’t print them.
Made as a study aid. Not affiliated with the game's publishers.
The tables printed on the game board, plus the Early Republic cards from the Living Rules card list, cut down to what the Early Republic basic game uses. Keep this open while you play.
Left out on purpose: the Middle and Late Republic columns and cards, the advanced rules (Pontifex Maximus, Priests, Provincial Wars, Rebel Governors) and the unofficial optional rules (Advocates, Passing Laws and the rest of section III).
Every game term used in this tutorial, in plain words, with the rulebook section to look up. In the lessons, tap any dotted-underlined word to see its entry.
